"Don't know if I can go back to road racing.... This was a fantastic race. Lots of uphill at the beginning, and an excellent illustration of the difference between country mile (or kilometres) and road miles. While I was amazed at how little ground I had covered, I soon didn't care as I was having so much fun. This was only my second trail race, but after losing my road running shoe deep in the muck, I knew I'd have to get some proper shoes to continue doing these, the finest races out there. "The kind of challenge that gives you a grin too big for your face! Brilliant course, backed up by good organisation and infrastructure, to get that magic balance that creates a fabulous atmosphere. This was a great launch to a new format for the VO2 Max team, as they've kept many of the successful elements of the Lakeland Trails series and given them a fresh twist. In particular, keeping the idea of the different length races, and the Challenge over the longer distance, so that everyone has the chance to finish in front of an enthusiastic crowd is a real winner for me (not a great runner!). The facilities at the racecourse were great, and were put to good use with a party in the evening. The star of the day has to be the course itself - challenging but glorious in the sunshine, with the potential to be as much fun in belting rain. Definitely one to come back to !" "Superbly organised - great route with excellent views. This is the first time the event has been run and I can see it growing year by year. We were lucky I suppose as the weather was still and sunny but not too warm. The route was excellent - varied tracks and trails up the hills, passing some glorious picnic spots by tarns but we didn't get chance to stop! After the initial steep climbs there is an absolutely brilliant undulating upland run. I hope this is repeated next year as I can see this event going from strength to strength." Sedbergh
